5. What about backup and redundancy?
Web servers should have a guaranteed up time of 99.9%. They should have disk drives that mirror each other so in the event that one fails, the server continues to operate smoothly using the other drives. The server should have redundant power supplies in addition to other features that insure the up time guarantee is met. Also, be sure that in the event of a catastrophic server failure a new server can be put in place within an hour to limit downtime. Backups should also be done on the server daily. This insures that all data can be retrieved regardless of the technical failure. These items should be part of any good disaster recovery plan for a website hosting company. |
