Website Solutions: Hosting and Email |
Once a website is completed, it is time to setup the website hosting and Email accounts associated with that website. Hosting refers to simply housing the website files that make up the website on a server and keeping them available to the Internet at all times. Hosting typically includes some Email accounts and things such as usage information.
Reliability and Uptime are vitally important to website hosting. We guarantee 99.9% uptime on all of our website hosting plans. We also have daily backups in place in case of any server issues we can recover quickly from a backup system. Our server have fully redundant hard drives and power supplies that can both be swapped without ever taking the server offline. We also have redundant Internet connections to our servers and a complete backup battery and generator system to provide power in the case of a power outage.
Having a Unique IP Address is also an important factor to look for when evaluating hosting plans. An IP Address is like a telephone number on the Internet. It is a unique address that identifies something on the Internet. Every domain name (yourname.com) is linked to an IP address. Sometimes each domain name has their own address and sometimes one address can server an entire server with several hundred websites on that server sharing the same IP Address. In the case of a shared IP Address, if any of the other domain names or websites sharing that IP Address contain inappropriate content or if they are sending SPAM Email or Spamming the search engines, the entire IP Address may be blocked or blacklisted thus locking your website out of search engines or causing your website to be blocked by content filters. It is important that your website has its own unique IP Address to guarantee that your website will not be blocked for things other websites may do. Technical Support is another area that differentiates “cheap” or “value” plans from Enterprise hosting plans. Many times technical support is only offered through Email. Other times companies place a cap on the number of times you can call in a month. At IGD Solutions Corporation we provide unlimited full and comprehensive technical support via phone during normal business hours (M – F 9am – 5pm) and via Email at any time. We can provide 24 hour technical support, but there is an additional charge for that support package. Our telephone and Email support can help you with a wide variety of issues including how to post updates to your website, how to access your Email both at your desk at work and when you are traveling, as well as how to look at your usage information. Our support personnel are knowledgeable and customer oriented. You don’t have to worry about talking to someone who may make you feel uncomfortable! We will make sure we resolve your technical issue and make sure your website strategy is as successful as possible.
When configuring a hosting account, usually the Email setup for that website or domain name must also be decided. At IGD Solutions Corporation we offer POP3 (Outlook or Netscape Mail) Access and Webmail (Using any Web Browser) Access to your Email Accounts. You can determine how many actual Email boxes you may want to setup and how many forwards or Aliases you want to setup. You can also decide the convention your Email addresses will follow. Some clients choose to do first initial followed by the last name, some choose last name only, some choose three letter initials, and come of our clients just choose to go by first name. The choice is up to you and we can help you arrive at that decision. You can then decide on how to setup your Email forwards or Aliases. For example, info@yourname.com may forward to the office manager at mary@yourdomain.com. Instead of having your website or flier say to contact mary@yourdomain.com directly, you are now having them Email your “General Company Mailbox.” This gives a more professional and larger company appearance typically without causing the need to have extra Email addresses that need to be checked. We can also setup a catch-all account which is great for sole proprietors. We can set up one Email account per domain to catch any Email that is not otherwise directed to an account. For example if the owner of the company is the only employee and his Email address is bob@yourdomain.com, we can setup all Email addressed to yourdomain.com to go to bob@yourdomain.com including things like: billing@yourdomain.com and info@yourdomain.com. You can also use these aliases to track where responses to certain advertisements has come from. For example in a chamber of commerce mailing, you might list the Email address as chamber@yourdomain.com and then you would know anyone who Emailed that address found your company through your local chamber of commerce.
To make Email as easy as possible for our customers, we go to great lengths to filter out SPAM and Viruses from our Email before they even reach the end user. Our Email server catches almost all viruses before they even reach your computer. You won’t even have to waste your time downloading or deleting these messages as they are already deleted by our server before they ever get to your account. We also provide a comprehensive SPAM filtering solution. Most SPAM filters rely on only one or two filtering mechanisms that are sometimes content related or filter based. Our SPAM solution combines characteristics of good Emails, characteristics of SPAM Email along with a comprehensive weighted blacklist of known spammers to provide an excellent filtering solution. While no solutions is 100% accurate we do an excellent job of dramatically cutting down on the amount of SPAM received while blocking practically no valid Email addresses. We also allow our customers to opt out of this service if they choose to run their own SPAM filter.
With website hosting, each plan contains a different limit on bandwidth and disk space. Hosting companies often charge extra when a company exceeds their limits often times blindsiding the company with an increased bill. At IGD Solutions Corporation we don’t believe in nickel and diming our customers. We will always let our customers know in advance when we see them going over their account limits. If there is just a temporary increase in traffic or disk space, we may not even charge our customers at all for the overages. Our goal is to work with our customers to insure their success in their website strategy, not to inhibit it.
While we provide a listing of specific hosting plans and features, we can customize a specific package a competitive price to give the customer the best possible hosting environment for their website or website application. We do not lock our customers into one specific plan with add-ons and extras they don’t need, we allow our customers to configure their own hosting plan
